I have two active collaborations:
Enrique Cerda-Olmeda and Luis Corrochano on a project evaluating the biochemical genetics of ornithine decarboxylase mutants in Phycomyces blakesleeanus.
D. M. Young to study the enzymology and structure of a protease from an extreme thermophilic Archeae, Pyrococcus furiosus.
I am also working closely with: Carl Feldherr on the mechanism of nuclear transport.
I have also participated on several projects in the past:
The late Bob Ulshafer on the biochemical genetics of the rd retinal degeneration defect in a strain of chickens. We found much lower levels of cGMP in the retina and no cGMP response to light. We traced the defect to guanylate cyclase or the regulation of this enzyme.
Robert Marino, a urologist, on innovative approaches to treat prostate cancer.
Yair Gazitt on the immunocytochemistry and molecular biology of myc oncogenes in various neuroblastoma cell lines.
R. Igor Gamow at the University of Colorado on 1) the avoidance of obstacles by Phycomyces and 2) the structure and properties of the Phycomyces cell wall.
I also worked with Kenneth Ortega on the latter problem.
Rainer Hertel at the Universitat Freiburg on isolating and characterizing the plasma membrane from Phycomyces.
Gary Stein now at UMass Medical School on the isolation and characterization of fungal chromatin.
