The summer of 1998 brought tremendous rain to Gainesville. Paynes Prairie, one of the unique preserves just south of Gainesville, was flooded. This sunset scene is probably much like the Prairie looked in the 1800's which could only be crossed by boat. Today, routes 441 and I-75 cross a much drier prairie.
