Kyle Rarey reported that the LCME progress report has been submitted and the areas of concern have been addressed. He offered to present this to the Committee if desired. Lynn Romrell reported the tragic death of Barbara Bennett.
Report on the anesthesiology rotation by Tammy Euliano. Tammy reported that the clerkship is overall doing well, that the anesthesia portion is very solid, but the critical care portion has not worked nearly as well. She stated that the students are telling her it needs to be back in the third year. The issue of integrating anesthesia with surgery was brought up, but Scott Lind stated that they had difficulty selling the concept to the Surgery Dept. In summary, Dr. Euliano believes that the rotation in the fourth year is going fair to poor overall and was very interested in any way possible to get the course back into the third year.
Part II of that report by Bruce Goldfeder on the Emergency Medicine rotation. He reported that there is very positive feedback from the faculty. Dr. Romrell reported that there isn't much feedback available from the students at this point, on either Emergency Medicine nor Anesthesia.
Overall the course seemed to be going well and we anticipate reviewing the
student evaluation data when it is available.
