Robert Watson stated that the SGEA will be in Charleston, South Carolina in two weeks.
Dr. Pauly delivered a report on the Essentials of Patient Care Course. In summary, it was generally agreed that the course is developing very dynamically with many new innovations and continued correction of problems. Feature undertakings include development of curriculum concerning cultural diversity, difficult patients, and managing bad news. There is also some interest in further developing evaluation of professionalism. There was continued agreement that the Clinical Diagnosis Lecture should be integrated in the EPC 3 & 4. Dr. Pauly has also begun to integrate clinical presentations into the structure of the course.
There was a recommendation that the Introduction of Clinical Diagnosis be integrated
fully into the Essentials of Patient Care and a brisk discussion followed about
how this decision should be made. There was no consensus that a decision should
be made at this point, and it was suggested that Dr. Pauly contact all relevant
parties to get further input on this issue. Dr. Pauly's report was accepted
and endorsed by the Curriculum Committee with the understanding that she would
negotiate the integration of Clinical Diagnosis into the course.
