Reporting on LCME Accreditation

Dr. Berns gave his view of LCME impressions by the site visitors this past week. The following is a summary:

After October we will get official word back from the LCME accrediting body.

The site team indicated to the provost that we have"the best medical school in the country."

Strengths:

Concerns of the LCME:

Suggests we should monitor:

  • any externally driven change in the PIMS Program
  • progress in evaluation and development of the curriculum
  • renovation of education facilities
  • housing in Jacksonville (sensitive to fact that because things happen in Tallahassee and we have to send more students to Jacksonville)

One of the things that impressed them about the concerns from the last site visit: every one of the concerns had been addressed and fixed. According to Dr. Berns it was a highly successful accreditation. Dean Berns then commended Dr. Rarey for his assignment and said that we did okay.

Dr. Rarey spoke about the support we have had which involved students and faculty, and we can be proud of our eucational community here in the College of Medicine. He thanked Margie McGarva for her contribution to the LCME process. Dr. Rooks asked for a round of applause for Dr. Rarey and Margie.

Dr. Rooks stated that our immediate goals are set and now we need to fine tune things. We just got validated that we are on the right track from the LCME. Dr. Rooks thanked Dean Berns for sharing his comments with us about the accreditation.

Meeting adjourned until April 11. The meeting for March 28 was cancelled.
