Announcements

Dr. Rarey announced that the Journal Club's second meeting will be on April 13, 4:30-5:30 in CG78. Three articles out of the Academic Medicine journal will be presented by various members of the faculty: "Implementation of a Four-year Multimedia Computer Curriculum in Cardiology at Six Medical Schools (Ira Gessner); Program Directors' Responses to a Survey on Variables Used to Select Residents in a Time of Change" (Patrick Duff), and "Medical Curriculum Reform in North America, 1765 to the Present: A Cognitive Science Perspective," (Parker Small).

The University of Florida College of Medicine Education Plan was handed out and also is now on the web {http://www.med.ufl.edu/oea/cc/exhibit6.html}.

It was announced that at the next meeting we will readdress the 3rd and 4th year curriculum.

Dr. Rooks asked the members to assign, on paper, a 48-week year and how many weeks should specialties get. The results will be announced at the next meeting.

Discussion about what computer skills incoming students have can be solved by having students send their idea of a code of ethics via email.

Dr. Davidson announced that there is a new second year evidence-based medicine course.

Dr. Rathe concluded his presentation.

Dr. Rooks made a motion to endorse this model for dealing with informatics issues in the curriculum. Key features being a two-hour workshop and an afternoon, minimal curriculum time. Dr. Wright seconded it. All endorsed the informatics model. A task force will be formed at a later date. Dr. Normann suggested that the syllabi be put on web.
