Agenda

Discussion of the Nutrition Curriculum.

An update on the current status of nutrition in our curriculum was provided by various members of the Committee.

The Committee outlined several areas that they thought should be covered during the four years of Medical School, including the following:
1. Definition of normal versus obese.
2. A guide for optimal health.
3. What the students need to know about nutritional math.
4. Hospital nutrition.
5. Total parenteral nutrition.
6. Pediatric nutrition and failure to thrive.
7. Supplemental nutrition and the use of vitamins and herbal medications.
8. Specific disease states and nutritional requirements
9. Understanding of the typical American diet.
10. The role of diet and exercise.
11. Myths surrounding nutrition.

It was decided that a Nutritional Task Force should be formed and formerly create a proposal for a comprehensive plan dealing with nutrition in the four years of Medical School.
