Agenda

Discussion on Professionalism.

Dr. Rooks reported that work of the Professionalism Task Force, which recommended a significantly shortened list of professionalism competency in the transfer of many of the previous ones, back to specific courses, such as ethics. The (?) Committee reviewed the list and unanimously agreed to accept it as the new set of professionalism competency. The only exception was that Item G was to be integrated into Item F.

Competency based curriculum development was discussed. We are continuing to develop a student evaluation system and will be following with a course evaluation system all based on the competency.

The course directors have endorsed the criteria that we use for the evaluation system. Ocie Harris is continuing to work with the basic science chairs on development of the clinical presentation model.

A need was stated for us to evaluate the changes that we made in the first and second year structure.

The status of the Anesthesia Course was discussed. Dr. Rooks explained that anesthesia will be transferred to the fourth year and have the option of a one or two week course required. Another possible option is to integrate anesthesia into the first and second years, and the department is taking a look at this. They are also in the process of looking at a possible combination rotation with surgery.

It was noted that this is the last meeting of Dan Ledbetter and Mark Cohen, and the Committee wished to express sincere thanks for their participation on the Curriculum Committee.

Dr. Rooks passed out surveys for the Committee to fill out relating to the quality of the Curriculum Committee meetings.
