Office of Student Counseling and Development
Services
The Office of Student Counseling and Development was established to provide assistance to all College of Medicine (COM) students. The services provided by this office include short-term personal counseling and workshops. Common counseling topics include adjustment, stress/anxiety, and personal relationship issues. Workshops are scheduled periodically throughout the year on the topics of stress management, sexual harassment, medical specialty decision-making, and residency application and interviewing.
Student Mistreatment/Abuse/Discrimination and/or Harassment
In matters regarding possible mistreatment, abuse, discrimination and/or harassment, student are encouraged to contact this office to consult with the counselor. This contact is confidential, thus will not launch a formal investigation. Assistance will be provided for resolving the current situation and possibly preventing future incidents. If deemed appropriate, students will be advised on how to file a formal student grievance or sexual harassment complaint.

Confidentiality
All contact with students is maintained confidential barring when disclosure is required by law (e.g., danger to self, others, suspicion of abuse of children, the elderly or disabled). Thus, this information is not included in official student records nor is it disclosed to the administration or faculty.
Location
The Office of Student Counseling and Development is located on the ground floor of the Communicore Building (Room CG-82).
Understandably, some students may feel more comfortable scheduling a counseling session away from the College of Medicine. Therefore, an alternate location has been arranged and students may express this preference upon calling for an appointment.
