Dr. Rarey discussed his presentation of the Evaluation Subcommittee report that was presented to the CC on 12/14/2004.
Dr. Rarey reviewed the First-Year-first semester course summary charts and the Second-Year first semester course syllabus & written reports. Dr. Rarey stated that the Senior Associate dean will contact the course directors that are not compliant.
Second semester 2nd Year courses-
· Syllabi remain strong, one non-compliant course.
· Written Reports- Dr. Rarey noted the low scoring of the formative feedback sections.
· Student Evals-Dr. Rarey recognized the overall strength of the course/clerkship directors.Third Year-
· Dr. Rarey stated that overall; the clerkship directors have done well with their reports.
· Dr. Kellner reminded that committee that the charge is to evaluate the report not the content.
· The issue of formative feedback was discussed by the committee. The committee stated that explanation of the importance should be discussed with the clerkship directors.
· Lou Ann Cooper stated that the educational "jargon" may not be applicable to the medical students.
· Elisabeth Lee stated that the formative feedback forms must be filled out or you can be penalized in your grade.Dr. Rarey discussed the workload report, and mentioned that this will be addressed by the LCME review committee.
Dr. Rarey stated that in the future he would like to review the "course notes" course directors provide to students. Does this positively affect the performance of the students?
The committee members agreed that this is an item for a future ESC agenda.Meeting adjourned 1:00pm.
