Attendance: Drs. Rarey, Novak, Ritz, Romrell, Kellner Students-Emily Goldberg, Penny Thomas Staff-Lou Ann Cooper, Cynthia Karle, Victoria Justice (recording).
Dr. Rarey led the review of fall 2004-05 courses/required sub internship numeric scores & narrative comments. Composite graphs of courses & required internships scores including course syllabi and the written reports were reviewed.
Courses reviewed:
- Clinical Human Anatomy
- Medical Cell & Tissue Biology
- EPC I
- Introduction to Clinical Practice
- General Pathology & Immunology
- Medical Microbiology & Infectious Disease
- Ethical & Legal Issues 2003 & 2004
- EPC III
With the committees' approval, course/sub-internship data will be forwarded to the course directors via email. Dr. Rarey suggested a statement inviting course directors to attend an ESC meeting be included in the report to the course directors.
Discussion:
- The committee discussed how to address communicating competencies scores to students from the course director's. Dr. Romrell mentioned that a student "score card" was being formulated to be included in the dean's letter. This would include student competencies. Dr. Kellner suggested that the ESC should make recommendations to the curriculum committee about the degree of compliance in student competencies being recorded in the first & second year.
- Lou Ann Cooper asked which committee institutes professional behavior policies for the COM. The committee discussed expectations of medical students and the enforcement policies of dress code and conduct.
