Attendance: K. Rarey, Molrine Tracy, Paulette Hahn, Lou Ritz, Cynthia Karlye, Emily Goldberg.
Dr. Rarey asked the committee to review the scoring of the remaining courses (EBM, Clinical Dx, EPC IV, & Pharmacology), (numeric & narrative) so that a final report of course rating could be submitted to the course directors. At this date there are two outstanding course reports, Human Behavior and Principles of Philosophy.
The committee agreed that clerkship submissions were not complete, and there were still outstanding reports from the directors. Thus, completed clerkships will be reviewed at the next ESC meeting on 10/13/04.
Open Discussion:
Dr. Ritz expressed a need of improvement for overall formative feedback. He stated that he would like to know what courses & clerkships are struggling in this area.
Dr. Ritz posed the question of competency. "How could students be rated on competency other than academic results?" Cynthia K. replied, "competencies are slowly being placed online". Emily said that presently she is not able to access them. Cynthia K. will look into this. Dr. Rarey noted that the course directors should be notified about student competencies.
Dr. Rarey asked the committee if they had noticed any improvement in students adhering to the revised student dress code. The committee discussed the difficulty of enforcing some of the codes. However, it was agreed that students seem to recognize the protocol.
Meeting was adjourned at 12:50p.m. The next meeting will be held on 10/13/04.
