Evaluation Sub Committee
September 28, 2005

Attendance: Drs. Rarey, Ritz, Romrell, Kellner, Novak, and Hahn.
Staff: Lou Ann Cooper, Cynthia Kayre, Margaret Isom (recording)
Agenda: Review of spring courses/written reports and clerkships as well as continue the discussion for assessment of the PBE continuum.
Discussion:
- Dr. Kellner inquired about the goals and objectives of the PBE. Dr. Kellner requested to receive feedback from the clerkship directors on how to utilize the PBE data.
- Dr. Rarey stated that Dr. Duerson and Dr. Romrell were good resources for giving summaries of the PBE data.
- Dr. Rarey suggested Dr. Ritz provide a progress report for the results of criteria subcommittee.
Syllabus:
- Dr. Kellner wanted to note on record that the format and the quality of the syllabi on the web were excellent. He was pleasantly amazed at the quality of the syllabus and wanted to commend the staff for doing an impressive job with the online syllabus.
- Dr. Novak also agreed that the quality of the syllabi on the web were excellent.
- Dr. Kellner suggested the committee meet with the course directors to discuss the evaluation competency forms.
Courses/Written Reports Data
- Dr. Novak stated the data for genetics were threading downward. Dr. Novak expressed there was very little about the pediatrics’ portion in EPC IV and she wanted to review the evaluations.
- Dr. Rarey suggested the clerkship directors attend the Evaluation Subcommittee meetings to discuss the clerkships data.
- Dr. Hahn expressed there were not good objectives for subspecialties and there needed to be an umbrella to follow subspecialties.
- Dr. Rarey requested each committee member to review the syllabus/written reports and clerkships comments and provide a one-page written synopsis of them. (i.e. glaring disparities between the committee and students' evaluations.)

- Dr. Rarey emphasized a synopsis of the courses and clerkships assessments would help the committee excel by taking ownership and accountability.
- Dr. Kellner noted the allocation of money for the clerkships were based on effectiveness and quality. He also stated self-assessment was tremendous and everyone should receive allocation for clerkships because it was a significant part of the budget.
- Dr Rarey expressed that reviewing the data for the courses and clerkships in this second pass would improve the way the committee analyzed courses and clerkships.
- Comment: Clerkship data should go to clerk directors at their monthly meetings. It creates resources for new directors to determine where to go.
- Dr. Novak requested the scores for the courses and clerkships. Dr. Rarey stated the scores were available at the website.
- Cynthia Karle stated she would find out if the committee had access to the scores and provide them with the website.
