Hugh Hill Conference Room
12:00 p.m.

Attendance: Dr. Rarey, Dr. Romrell, Dr. Ritz, Dr. Paulette Hahn, Emily Goldberg, Cynthia Karlye, Lou Ann Cooper. Victoria Justice: Recording.

Dr. Kyle Rarey presented the numeric and narrative data for the 2003-04 clerkships. The committee reviewed scores and discussed several issues:

Dr. Hahn expressed concern about the format of the syllabus for the surgery clerkship (Mike Chen). She asked the committee if the clerkship directors are formatting the clerkship syllabus based on the on-line format. Dr. Rarey asked the committee if Dr. Chen should be invited to "sit in" on an Eval Sub Committee meeting.

The committee noted the marked improvement of the Psychiatry Clerkship scores. Dr. Rarey suggested a kudos letter be sent to Glenn Newman congratulating him on the success of his clerkship.

Dr. Ritz asked the committee about the process of evaluation of sub-internships Dr. Romrell explained the process to the committee. Dr. Rarey stated that a reminder letter would be sent to the sub-internship directors to request they submit their reports.

Dr. Ritz presented to the committee a first draft of a spreadsheet the compares competencies of post-graduates (class of 2002) vs. 3rd year students. This is an ongoing project that Dr. Ritz and Cynthia Krlye will continue to refine. Dr. Rarey suggested contacting Dr. Duff to invite him to attend the Eval Sub Committee meeting in December when more data on this subject is presented. Dr. Rarey stated that we may need to adjust the meeting schedule to accommodate Dr. Duff. Dr. Romrell explained that the collaboration of all data would be very helpful to the faculty.

Dr. Rarey suggested that the competency report that is in development by Dr. Ritz would be of interest to the SGEA. Dr. Rarey asked Dr. Ritz to consider presenting the data to the committee at the annual meeting scheduled for December 2004. Dr. Rarey stated that the Department of Education would pay for his expenses to attend.

Dr. Ritz asked the committee/Romrell about "global" competency scoring. Dr. Romrell explained that "histograms" are created to explain student status. He explained that the "dean's" letter has a template.

Meeting adjourned at 12:50 p.m.
