Dr. Rarey asked Dr. Ritz for his synopsis of the Interdisciplinary Family Health course and evaluation. Dr. Ritz first noted that this course is listed as a Fall course. Dr. Ritz wanted to know if this was a 1 or 2 semester course. After some discussion, Dr. Hahn, who is a faculty member that teaches the course, stated that yes in fact IFH is a 2 semester course. Dr. Ritz also said that there were 2 different syllabi: One that the course director sent to the committee and the other that is listed online. It was decided that Dr. Davidson be asked to meet with the committee. Dr. Ritz also stated that the teacher evaluations of the course do not mesh with the student evaluations. Faculty think the course is a success, while students do not. Dr. Hahn stated that the appreciation of the course will come later. Ms. Thomas stated that there were a lot of scheduling conflicts with the families in the course being unable to meet. Dr. Hahn stated that the support staff for the course does their best to rectify situations if the students let them know that there are issues.

Dr. Ritz gave his synopsis of the Surgery clerkship and evaluation. The syllabus did not contain a lot of information regarding the sub-specialties. Dr. Kellner stated that this should not be a problem as the students are not there to learn a specialty they are there to learn basic surgery. There was discussion in the group about the fragmented quality of the sub-specialty portion of the syllabus. Dr. Rarey suggested that Dr. Chen meet with the committee in January.

Dr. Rarey asked Dr. Hahn to give her synopsis of the Oncology clerkship and evaluation. Dr. Hahn stated that Dr. Lynch submitted 2 syllabi. The revisions that are being made seem to address many of the issues in the 2004-2005 syllabus. Dr. Hahn suggested that inclusion of the other faculty teaching the course as well as contact information would be useful. The syllabus contains the information required but it needs to be better organized. Dr. Hahn also noted that the formative and summative feedback sections were not clear. Ms. Thomas identified that the class meets for lecture once a week. Dr. Kellner asked why is it a separate course if the class only meets once a week? Dr. Kellner wanted to know why this class was not included in Pathology. Dr. Rarey said he would speak with Dr. Lynch and get the information for the committee.

Dr. Hahn gave her synopsis of the Neurology clerkship and evaluation. Dr. Hahn stated that overall the syllabus was a work in progress, but good. The written report was very thorough, but was not in the format recommended. Dr. Rarey thought that the clerkship director did a good job comparing Jacksonville to Gainesville. There is no formative feedback because the clerkship was only 2 weeks. Dr. Rarey would like know if now that the clerkship is 3 weeks, if there is now formative feedback. Dr. Hahn asked if perhaps the clerkship director was trying to accomplish too much in a short period of time.

Meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
