Criminal Background Checks & Drug Screening

As you progress to the third and fourth year of school, you will have clinical clerkships and electives in several different hospitals and outpatient settings. All of these facilities now require that employees and medical students have a local and national criminal background check and a random drug screen. These tests will be conducted for each class at the conclusion of the second year curriculum. The criminal background check is conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The drug screen is performed by a local laboratory, and the results are evaluated by an independent and specially trained Medical Review Officer. The results of the background check and drug test are strictly confidential and are only available to officials who have an absolute need to know them. Students are responsible for the costs of these screens; total charges should be approximately $100. Your financial aid package will be structured to cover this added expense.
