ROLLING DEADLINE FOR ADVERTISING FACULTY POSITIONS

In addition to the current normal search process, under "certain exceptional cases", i.e., eminent scholars, deans and vice presidents, rolling application deadlines may be utilized. Others may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

A rolling deadline may be used:

This change only reflects the advertisement deadline date. All of the current posting requirements are still in effect, i.e., committees are still required to make proactive efforts to ensure the participation of qualified women and minority candidates in each part of the selection process, establish a diverse search committee, utilize the List of Five, and any other activity that will assist in creating a good, solid pool of applicants.

If a department wishes to request a rolling deadline for a specific position, a letter addressed to the Dean of the College of Medicine should be forwarded to the Dean's Office, Administrative Affairs Division in Room G1-016, HSC. These requests should cite the circumstances that necessitate a rolling deadline. The circumstances noted may include specific efforts that have been taken that have not produced satisfactory recruiting results.

If use of the rolling deadline is approved, the department will then forward required affirmative action paperwork. For the rolling deadline, the advertisement will include the following language: "The search committee will begin reviewing applications on (specify date) and will continue to receive applications until the position is filled." When the search committee has identified a suitable pool of candidates, a Change Request Form must be submitted with a closing advertisement date for the position that will be advertised in the On-Line Position Vacancy Announcement System. The formal offer can then be made upon completion of the entire search process. Searches for all other positions will utilize the existing procedures.
