Emeritus Faculty

If a faculty member is retiring and the department has voted to award him/her the emeritus status, indicate "Change in Title" on the Academic Personnel Transaction form used for retirement purposes. The "present title" should show the professional title followed by "Emeritus". The "previous title" should list the title in effect on the last day of employment.

In addition to the notation on the Academic Personnel Transaction form, please attach a letter from the department Chair to the Dean requesting permission to appoint the faculty member with an emeritus title. The letter should indicate that the faculty of the department have voted to award this title and that the vote was affirmative.
