Sidney Cassin, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus E-mail: scassin@phys.med.ufl.edu Publications: Search PubMed My research interest is in the area of perinatal physiology. Current research deals with: (1) the role of circulating vasoactive substances (prostaglandins, leukotrienes, other arachidonic acid metabolites, angiotensin II, catecholamines, and vasopressin) in the physiological and pharmacological regulation of the perinatal pulmonary circulation; (2) tone dependency of the fetal pulmonary circulation to vasoactive agents; (3) the basic mechanism(s) responsible for the perinatal pulmonary hypoxic pressor response; (4) control of the ductus arteriosus (isolated tissue bath studies) and other small diameter pulmonary vessels by gaseous and hormonal substances; and (5) factors which regulate lung liquid secretion and absorption in fetal animals prior to birth.
