Restenosis
Restenosis is typically defined as a renarrowing of an arterial blood vessel within six months of an angioplasty, CABG, or other vascular procedure. It typically occurs in approximately 25% to 45% of patients, and is the result of an excessive response to arterial injury after a revascularization procedure. Restenosis may occur within a short period after a procedure or may develop over the course of months or years.
Longer term or " late" restenosis may result from excessive proliferation of scar tissue at the treatment site, the causes of which are not well understood.
