2) From the FYI Digest: Congratulations to the College of Medicine Faculty Named UF Research Foundation Professors: The University of Florida
Research Foundation (UFRF) has named 5 College of Medicine faculty members, who have a distinguished current record of research and a strong research agenda likely to lead to continuing distinction in their fields, as UFRF Professors for 2002-2005.
The UFRF Professors were
recommended by their college deans based on nominations from their department
chairs, a personal statement and an evaluation of their recent research
accomplishments as evidenced by publications in scholarly journals, external
funding, honors and awards, development of intellectual property and other
measures appropriate to their field of expertise. The three-year award carries
with it a $5,000 annual salary supplement and a $3,000 grant.
The professorships are funded from the
university’s share of royalty and licensing income on UF-generated products.
Founded in 1986, the not-for-profit UFRF provides a means by which research can
be conducted flexibly and efficiently, and by which discoveries, inventions,
processes and work products of UF faculty, staff and students can be transferred
from the laboratory to the public. Funds generated by licensing such discoveries
are used to enhance research at the university. Congratulations to the 2002/2005

3) From the FYI Digest: Revised PHS Form 2271 Now
Available
The revised "Statement of
Appointment Form" (PHS 2271, Rev. 5/01) is now available and will be accepted
immediately. This form is required for each new appointment, reappointment or
amended appointment of an individual receiving stipend, tuition costs, or travel
expenses as a trainee under a PHS institutional training grant, or receiving
salary as an appointee under a career development program award in which the
institution selects and appoints the individual.
For appointments beginning on or after June 1,
2002, the new form is required. Use of the previous version (Rev. 4/98) will be
permitted for appointments that begin on or before May 31, 2002. NIH must
implement use of this revised form in order to maintain compliance with the
Office of Management and Budget (OMB) standards for the collection of
race/ethnicity data.
The major change in this version of the form
is the ability to capture race/ethnicity data using a two-tiered reporting
system. Individual trainees will first indicate ethnicity and then indicate one
or more races. Another change is a new lexicon for describing the actual area of
research training for each trainee.
Revision is available at Instructions and
Forms. The form available on the website has been modified to enable the
fields to be filled in directly using Adobe Acrobat Reader
Software.
For questions about the revised form and
instructions, please contact the NIH grants management specialist identified on
the notice of grant award. For questions about use of the PDF Fillable Format or
the Adobe Acrobat Software, please contact:
