WHAT'S NEW

1) Cost Accounting Standards, Targeted Expenditure Report:  Change in Allowable Charges

The Office of the Inspector General recently audited the University’s Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) Report and procedures and found some compliance issues that need to be addressed.

In the past, Data Processing Supplies (object code 391000) and Supplies Communication Resources (object code 391003) were being treated as Office Supplies with respect to coding for the Compliance System.  If you had been granted an exception for Office Supplies you were able to charge these object codes also.    Further review indicated that these object codes needed to have their own justifications and exceptions granted by DSR.  Contracts & Grants has added a “D” to the exception codes that will allow a grant to charge both 391000 & 391003 once an exception has been granted.

If a current federal account has charges to one or both of these two object codes, this will trigger a CAS violation.  You should apply to Sandra Goldstein in DSR for an exception for Data Processing Supplies.  You will need to move the charges to an unrestricted account if the project/grant is not eligible for an exception.  If your grant has already gotten justification for Data Processing Supplies and/or Supplies Communication Resource and it is not reflected correctly in the system, please call Kathy Clarke at 392-1235 or email.
