2.Student Tuition and Fees, 2002-2003

Please be informed that the new faculty and staff tuition and fees will be effective Fall Semester, 2002.The In-State resident tuition rate increased to $147.33.For Out-of-State resident the tuition rate will increase to $612.65 Pursuant to Section 240.124, F.S., each student enrolled in the same undergraduate course more than twice will be assessed an extra $177.42 per credit hour in addition to the fees for each such course.

5. NINDS Policy Update for Career (K) Awards

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) announces additional review and program priority criteria for institutional commitment to fellows applying for mentored K awards.The following criteria do not replace, but are in addition to the stated criteria in each of the parent program announcements for K08 and K23 awards:

The NINDS strongly encourages applicant institutions to demonstrate strong commitment toward the academic independence of candidates for K08 and K23 Awards.The institutional environment and commitment to the candidate should convince the reviewers of the intent of the institution to transition the awardee from mentored research to independence.The level of institutional commitment as reflected by the candidate's appointment will be considered as a review and programmatic criterion. For more information, see notice NOT-NS-02-014 of the NIH Guide.(Posted 07/12/02)

CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS

1.IRB Forum

All Principal Investigators, Research/IRB Coordinators, and staff completing IRB paperwork.

The Health Science Center IRB-01 is holding a second IRB FORUM - July 2002 to present and discuss:

(1)New procedures for submitting information to WIRB.

(2) New Continuing Review/Study Closure form and new Introductory Questionnaire. 

(3) Formal poll on proposed changes to deadline and # of copies required for submissions.

(4) New web site.

(5) Open discussion.

This meeting is going to be held on two different occasions:Friday, July 19th Room R5-265 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. or Thursday, July 25th Room R5-265 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.

3.SEPTEMBER ARENA IACUC 101 TRAINING PROGRAM IN CHICAGO

The Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare/NIH (OLAW) and the Applied Research Ethics National Association (ARENA) in conjunction with Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine will present an ARENA IACUC 101 training course in Chicago, Illinois, on September 25, 2002.IACUC 101 is a full day didactic and interactive course. Participants will receive an extensive Resources Manual plus other valuable reference materials and information.
