WHAT’S NEW

1)Compliance With the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules May 28, 2002In the May 28, 2002 NIH Guide Notice, NIH reminds the research community of the need to comply with the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules which stipulate biosafety and containment measures for research involving recombinant DNA research and delineate additional requirements for human gene transfer studies. The Notice also highlights recent changes to the safety reporting requirements associated with human gene transfer studies and the important roles and responsibilities of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) in the local review of recombinant DNA research. The provisions outlining the IBC roles and responsibilities, including registration and annual reporting requirements to the NIH Office of Biotechnology Activities (OBA), can be found at: http://www4.od.nih.gov/oba/IBC/IBCindexpg.htm.

2)Proposal processing services will be provided on site at the UF Health Science Center by DSR for the July 1 NIH deadline. DSR staff will be available in Room R1-106 (Hugh Hill Conference Room) on the following days and times:

Thursday, June 27 - 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.Friday, June 28 - 1:00 - 4:30 p.m.

Complete proposal review service will be provided, including the authorized institutional signature. Please bring the original proposal plus one (1) complete copy for DSR records. Without this record copy, the authorized signature may not be provided on site. Proposals will be released back to the Principal Investigator or his/her representative for mailing. The central Proposal Processing Office, 2nd Floor Grinter Hall, will be staffed and open for business as usual -- 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. -- on these days. Questions may be directed to the Proposal Processing Office at 392-9267.

REMINDERS! 

1)Revised PHS 2271 Now Available April 5, 2002.The revised "Statement of Appointment Form" (PHS 2271, Rev. 5/01) is now available and will be accepted immediately. For appointments beginning on or after June 1, 2002, the new form is required. Use of the previous version (Rev. 4/98) will be permitted for appointments that begin on or before May 31, 2002. The revised instructions and form are available on the NIH Forms and Applications Page. Also, see the April 5, 2002 NIH Guide Notice for further information on this form.
