1) Health
Insurance Rates have officially increased effective 01/10/03. Any
proposals with the start dates of 01/01/03 Effective immediately, all proposals
should use the new employer insurance rates. The increase is thirteen percent over the current
rates. This increase could
substantially effect the bottom line of your budgets. The Term Life Insurance has also increased from .20% to .24%. For the information on the new rates go

Core Facilities –
A web site has been created for a list of core facilities available to Health Science
Center Faculty. If you have or
know of additional core facilities that need to be posted, please contact the
Office for Research Affairs. http://www.med.ufl.edu/research/corefacilities.html
3) College of Medicine Department Chairs list has been added to our ORA web site.
1) 2003 Searle Scholars Program - No more than two applications will be accepted from any one institution. Individuals considering submitting applications should go to the ORA Internal Deadline procedures. Internal deadline for nominations is August 30, 2002. Deadline for full proposals to the sponsor is Friday, September 27, 2002.
2) Burroughs Wellcome Fund – Career Awards in the Biomedical Sciences – This program is intended to foster the development of biomedical researchers who are early in their careers and to help in the transition to becoming independent investigators. This nomination is limited to six candidates; therefore Individuals considering submitting applications should go to the ORA Internal Deadline procedures. Internal deadline for nominations is September 3, 2002. Deadline for full proposals to the sponsor is October 1, 2002.
3) Klingenstein Fellowship Awards in the Neurosciences for 2003. In support of young investigators engaged in basic or clinical research that may lead to a better understanding of epilepsy. For additional information and application forms, please contract ORA. Application Deadline is December 6, 2002.

CONFERENCES
AND WORKSHOPS
1) National
Institutes of Health - APV/ASLAP/OLAW WORKSHOP ON USES OF NONHUMAN PRIMATES,
OCTOBER 2002. The Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare, NIH (OLAW) will join
the Association of Primate Veterinarians (APV) and the American Association of
Laboratory Animal Practitioners (ASLAP) in co-sponsoring a workshop entitled,
"Emerging Uses of Nonhuman Primates in Biomedical Research." NIH
