FSR SUBMISSION IS CHANGING AS OF 12/31/02
On
the last newsletter there was an announcement from Inside
eRA for Partners News Bulletin that
there will be a new
Web-Based Financial Status Report (FSR) System launched.
According a notice from the National Institutes of Health, the
current system used to electronically submit financial status
reports to the NIH is scheduled to be turned off on December
31, 2002. This system is part of an NIH legacy system that
is in the process of being decommissioned. The new system
that will take its place is the FSR module of the NIH Commons
version 2. It will be deployed on November 1, 2002 and be
in limited use until November 18, 2002 at which time it will
be opened up to all users of the current system.
To
be able to use the new FSR module, recipient institutions
will need to register in the NIH Commons V2. All of the institutions
that were registered users in version 1 of the NIH Commons
will automatically be registered for version 2.

Research
Opportunity Fund Competition 2003
The
Research Opportunity Fund Competition expects to fund 10-12
proposals this year. The competition is for interdisciplinary
(and, where possible, intercollegiate) research that has
the expectation and a reasonable plan for becoming an externally-funded
program within the University of Florida. Projects should
be innovative, support university and college mission goals,
have strong potential for garnering future funding from
external sources, or have outstanding commercial potential.
RGP
particularly wants to encourage requests for equipment for
multiple users; Novel, new projects not currently funded;
and proposals leading to a Program Project.
Awards
are expected to range up to $100,000 and must be spent within
one year. Faculty (PI's) cannot request their own salary
support but may request technical support and equipment.
Proposals that include participation by IFAS and/or College
of Engineering faculty are welcome. However, budget expenses
for these participants must be covered by their respective
units. Proposals must include letters of commitment from
these units guaranteeing this cost sharing should the proposal
be recommended for funding.
The
deadline for proposals is January 15, 2003.
Please review the proposal
guidelines, which have been substantially revised this
year. (Posted 11/01/02)

INTERNAL

NEW
FUNDING
OPPORTUNITIES

Certain
agencies announce Requests for Applications that limit the
number of proposals that can be submitted by the University.
In these instances, the Office for Research Affairs will post
an internal deadline for interested faculty to submit a Letter
of Intent to the Office for Research Affairs.
If
there are more applicants interested in submitting a proposal
than the agency's guidelines allow for, an internal review
process will be coordinated by ORA. ORA will only coordinate
the requests that are specifically for health related projects.
RGP will coordinate all other requests. There is not always
a candidate who applies for an award. If you are interested
in a funding opportunity and the internal deadline has passed,
check with ORA to see if this opportunity is still available.
