Successful Six Annual Fibromyalgia Meeting

We want to thank everyone for coming out on May 12th to the sixth annual Fibromyalgia meeting to listen to Dr. Staud speak about the latest Fibromyalgia (FMS) research. He emphasized on the important role of peripheral input for FMS pain. This type of pain seems to come from deep tissues, including muscles, joints, and bones. Our laboratory has previously shown, that these local pains strongly predict overall FMS pain. Thus, local therapies, that reduce or abolish these local pain regions, are important for effective FMS therapy. Besides medical therapy for FMS pain, non-pharmacological interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapies are exciting new options. For those who are interested in FMS Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you can either call yourself or be referred by your doctor to Dr. Lori Waxenburg at (352)265-0294.
