Call for Abstracts: College of Medicine Annual Celebration of Research The College of Medicine Annual Celebration of Research is scheduled for April 28- 29, 2009. A highlight of this event is the presentation of Research Posters by the Faculty. Traditionally, this has served to showcase the ongoing research in the College of Medicine and foster interaction among faculty, fellows and students. This year, two different themed poster sessions will be held on consecutive days. In order to provide a more focused opportunity for Clinical faculty participation, a special clinical poster showcase session will be held on Tuesday April 28th, 2009 from 6pm to 8pm in the Cancer Genetics Complex. This session will be limited to 60 posters. A general research poster session highlighting translational research will be held on Wednesday April 29th from 8am to 4pm, in the ARB Founders Gallery and the HPNP Reception Area. This session has a capacity of 130 posters. An online abstract submission process will be used this year. Abstract submissions will be accepted Today, January 5, 2009 through February 5, 2009. The submission process can be initiated by going to the website http://succeednow.org/SoftwareCOM/ and clicking the create account button to the right. Abstracts will be accepted until February 5th or until we reach our combined capacity of 190 abstracts, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST!!!. You will be notified by email regarding your poster number, date, location and time of your session. On the submission form, please indicate the category of your poster presentation as: Clinical or Clinical/Quality of Care for the Tuesday session. Poster boards will be available to you by 12pm on Tuesday April 28th. Please remove posters by 8am on April 29th. Clinical and Clinical Quality of care posters will have first priority in the nighttime session on April 28th . If we have more applications than spaces, those will be part of the day session on April 29th. For the Wednesday, April 28 th session please indicate if your poster fits a “Clinical”, “Basic”, "TR/Clinical" or "TR/Basic" category. Poster boards will be available for this session at 2pm on Tuesday April 28 th . Please have posters up by 8am on Wednesday April 28th and removed by 8am April 29th. Be prepared to give an informal presentation as attendees cluster around your display from 6pm to 7:30pm for the evening session and from 1:30pm to 2:45pm for the day session. *For any website related questions, please email tinabrad@ufl.edu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MISSION The College of Medicine Faculty Council was formed for the purpose of promoting the advancement of medicine by elevating and sustaining education; fostering patient care of the highest quality; supporting medical discovery as well as basic science research; promoting mutual fellowship and good feeling among the faculty; providing an effective means of communicating between the faculty and administration of the College of Medicine and Health Science Center; cooperating with the other administrative units within the Health Science Center and University in all matters of mutual interest; making charitable contributions; and by directing the energies of the members in the interest of public health and welfare. This organization seeks to insure maximum communication through defined orderly procedures, to clarify the means by which faculty can effectively contribute to and identify with the affairs of the College, to allow the voting faculty to be responsible for developing the educational policies of the College and, in the spirit of shared governance, to advise the Dean and Administration on all matters pertaining to faculty responsibilies. The College of Medicine is organized on a departmental basis, each unit administered by a Chairman who is accountable to the Dean. This faculty organization shall be organized to obtain direct representative input from each department. This includes the authority for departmentally-elected representatives and faculty-elected officers to meet regularly as a Faculty Council, to call meetings of the entire faculty, to preside at such meetings and to serve or appoint faculty to serve as members or ex-officio members of the standing committees of the College of Medicine and the Health Science Center. The Faculty Council will insure the faculty is apprised of current affairs and issues, including pertinent committee business. Representatives on the standing committees will report to the Faculty Council. Upon due consideration the Faculty Council, may instruct the committee representatives to convey opinions and recommendations to these committees, including the Executive Committee and the Dean. The faculty will act within the general policies as established within the provisions of the University of Florida policy manual. The Council meets the first Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise noted on our "Meeting Schedule" page.
